The presence and specific characteristics of these androconia and their patches can be used as a taxonomic feature to help distinguish <i>Colias crocea<\/i> from similar species, like <i>Colias erate.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The presence of this features is not conclusive; as you can see in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/242330331_A_review_of_records_for_Colias_erate_Esper_1805_Lep_Papilionoidea_Pieridae_in_Cyprus_were_they_all_yellow_forms_of_Colias_croceus_Geoffroy_1785\">John et al (2006)<\/a>\u00a0 a sex brand is also found in a small percentage of <i>Colias<\/i> <i>erate<\/i>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>See below one photo of <em>Colias
