CHARACTERISTIC DETAILS OF THE SPECIES Hipparchia fatua and Hipparchia statilinus
The species Hipparchia fatua and Hipparchia statilinus are relatively similar but can be distinguished by the photos from:
- The largest size of the individuals Hipparchia fatua and the smallest of the individuals Hipparchia statilinus.
- That in the islands of the eastern Aegean but also in some other Aegean islands there is only Hipparchia fatua.
- The differences in the lines, which exist in the coffin, are clear and complete in Hipparchia fatua and faint in Hipparchia statilinus (indicated below with red lines).
- In young individuals all the features are easily discernible while in the old individuals it is sometimes difficult to identify.
