CHARACTERISTIC DETAILS OF THE SPECIES Hipparchia fatua and Hipparchia statilinus

The species Hipparchia fatua and Hipparchia statilinus are relatively similar but can be distinguished by the photos from:

  1. The largest size of the individuals Hipparchia fatua and the smallest of the individuals Hipparchia statilinus.
  2. That in the islands of the eastern Aegean but also in some other Aegean islands there is only Hipparchia fatua.
  3. The differences in the lines, which exist in the coffin, are clear and complete in Hipparchia fatua and faint in Hipparchia statilinus (indicated below with red lines).
  4. In young individuals all the features are easily discernible while in the old individuals it is sometimes difficult to identify.
