The identification of the butterflies of the genus Lycaena is very easy by the UPS of the males but also by the characteristic details of the UNS.
Females are also relatively easily identified by the UPS and UNS.
Only the females Lycaena ottomana and Lycaena virgaureae are very similar, but can be distinguished as shown in the relevant table below.
